WHAKAPOUNGAKAU 4K2C, 4K2D, 4K2A

Land locked at 1600 feet above lake level. Ngati Rangiteaorere complained that its access into the land blocks immediately adjoining the 900 acres taken for Okataina Reserve was hopeless. Whakapoungakau 4k2A is the block at the very top of the range. It provides views out to Lakes Tarawera, Okataina, Rotorua, Mokoia Island, Maketu Heads, Mayor Island and Motiti Island.



Ngati Rangiteaorere complained at the careless attitude of the Maori Land Court in sub-dividing the block and not providing for the “upper” Whakapoungakau blocks to have access to the roads.

The only way these blocks can operate successfully is to voluntarily join forces together and informally amalgamate land and management issues.

NRCC seeks rating relief for these land blocks.
